EJ Shaw Removals: Tips
Here are some tips from EJ Shaw to make your moving easier.
If you want to find something specific, use 'Ctrl F'.
- General
- Grab a coffee and read the following carefully, it could save you a lot of aggravation.
- Don t know where to start? Download the AFRA checklist
- Be ready! A lot of valuable time can be wasted while our staff wait for you to finish packing.
- The most difficult removals we have done are usually as a result of customers attempting to do everything the day before.
- Hazards should be noted ahead of time. You should advise us of damaged or fragile furniture, weak or broken stairs, or impediments which may affect the move.
- Parking near your residence should be easily accessible for us. Do whatever you can to reserve parking for the removal truck. Remember the moving van cannot block the street. Also, if we have to walk half a block with your furniture the move will take longer and cost you more.
- If you are not on the ground floor or may have access problems, please advise us well in advance. Advise us of potential problems, and special needs such as clothing wardrobes, extra cartons, last minute packing, etc.
- Stack all cartons neatly against a wall, and create clear, unobstructed paths to prevent the possibility of tripping. When possible disassemble beds, remove mirrors from dressers or walls. E J Shaw Removals will do this for you if required, but if you do it beforehand you will save time. Remember that saving time saves you money.
- Packing
- Tie up all of the cords of your electrical appliances, once again to save you time and money.
- Write on the masking tape you use to close up your boxes. That way, we will give you a credit for them when they are returned.
- Proper Packing is the most important thing that you can do to save time, money, and breakages! Basically, use common sense when packing. Pack heavier things like books into smaller boxes, and pack lighter things in progressively larger boxes. Never make a box heavier than the lady of the house can handle, since she may be the one who ends up moving it around before or after the move.
- Thoroughly wrap fragile items individually with paper, bubble wrap or foam wrap depending on the item (newspaper print residue must be hand washed off of all things it touches, dishwasher washing will not take it off). Special care must be taken with small items so as not to lose them in the packing materials. Taping over the wrapping is a good technique to highlight a small item as not being merely a bunched up piece of paper. Glassware and china should be wrapped so as not to clatter within the box. Use plenty of paper to line the top, bottom and side of each box.
- To pack your dishes, line the boxes with crushed paper before you start. Place all the glasses with more crushed paper and stack them upside-down in the boxes. Place more crushed paper around them. Remember, if things don't move when the box is shaken, chances are they'll arrive intact. Wrap plates in crushed paper and stack them on their side, not flat.
- If it will fit in a box, put it in a box, preferably removalist boxes, because regular shapes pack better.
- Don't pack your checkbook, passport, visas or airline tickets!. If you are putting your goods in storage, don't pack important papers like passports, driver's licenses, birth certificates, etc.
- If you or family members are taking prescription medication that they might require during the day, then keep this aside.
- Don't pack your spare car keys or any other keys that you might require in an emergency, particularly if your goods are going into storage.
- Remember that you may need to keep hold of your mobile phone charger or any other devices that you might require.
